Air Swept Classifier Mills
Complete Systems
Energy Efficiency Economical, efficient recovery of fine powders Easy to clean, maintain and operate Particle size easily adjustable without shutdown Low grinding temperature Tighter distributions Maximum capacities
The CMS Air Swept Classifier Mill is a user-friendly and versatile component of a system which is comprised of the Air Swept Classifer Mill and the CMS Dust Collector with an airlock and a fan.
Our Air Swept Classifier Mill is completely enclosed resulting in a dust free environment and virtually no product is lost. The combination of impact size reduction and classifying results in the attainment of degrees of fineness which come within the range of jet mills (micronizers). However, the energy and time required to run this system is substantially lowered. The combination of high air throughput and cooled grinding chamber allows heat sensitive products to be run at higher capacities than ever thought possible.
How The System Works This high efficiency classification system consistently sweeps the material directly in front of the hammers at right angles to the hammers. Different designs allow the material to pick up the peripheral speed of the rotor, which affects the impact energy transferred to the particle, again, affecting efficiency.
As the feed material is introduced into the grinding chamber, the movement of air from below the rotor disc sweeps the fines in the feed directly to the classifier. This pre-classification insures that work is only performed on that fraction of material which is larger than your requirements.
The classifier, an integral component of the mill, allows acceptance of the desired particles. Those particles rejected by the classifier are continuously recycled back to the impactors for further reduction. The classifier design with its canted blades has been proven to produce a narrow particle distribution.
Built into the design is the capability to change the speed of the classifier over a wide range while the mill is in operation. This feature is necessary to compensate for rises in differential pressure losses across the product collector during initial start-up.
The capability to change the speed of the classifier allows for optimizing peak capacity. Once the system is stabilized, the Air Swept Classifier mill will continue to produce the same fineness and capacity on a daily basis. Should future requirements change, this air swept classifier mill has the ability to change too. The variable speed of the classifier as well as the regulation of the air flow and the rotor speed, enable the variation of particle fines over a wide range. The maximum permissible particle size or the separation curve can be adjusted during the grinding operation. This drive allows your operator the ability to change particle size without shutting down the mill. A 200HP mill can turn up to 20 tons of 200 mesh limestone. Just make the necessary changes to the classifier speed, and produce the required product.
Horizontal and Top Access Design As shown, this feature allows all internal components to be accessed without having to disassemble the classifier or hammer disc, and allows greater accessibility for the removal of any parts that require replacement. In addition, this design increases the life of any hardware that is often being removed with tools and possible worn or stripped resulting in frequent maintenance repair | Dust Collectors

Classifier Milling Systems manufacture dust collector systems that are completely compact with all the essential ingredients of top quality power, optimal filtering capabilities and complete storage capacity.
Our dust collectors have been designed for the material conveying and powder processing industries.
The computer aided modular design allows for custom configurations, specifically tailored to meet your systems requirements to be available on standard delivery schedule. The units handle a wide range of product characteristics and conveying system configurations.
Our Dust Collectors utilize a standard radial inlet for most applications and incorporate a tangential inlet which produces a cyclonic effect for heavy dust load separation.
Our Dust Collectors are of a pulse jet design. A stand alone blow-pipe configuration would be sufficient to do the cleaning but we add a Venturi to induce secondary air to the cleaning system, effectively reducing energy consumption and promoting longer bag life.

Hammer Mills
CMS Hammer Mills are used in a wide variety of applications. The applications include Cryogenic grinding of plastics and rubber as well as Sugar, Herbs and Corn Starch. The CMS mill comes in various sizes to fit your specific application. The horse power ranges in these mills are from 1/4HP to as high as 150HP. These Mills provide rugged operation and smooth running due to the heavy durable housing and unique light weight rotor design. A single access is provided for easy maintenance, cleaning or service. Reduced downtime and lower operating costs pay off immediately. Crushers / Shredders
CMS offers single and double roll models, both built to withstand the stress of industrial crushing. Crushers are available in three different sizes and models - The Lab Crusher, the Standard crusher and the Supreme Crusher. All are designed either to serve as pre-crusher for the CMS Pulverizers and other milling units, or as independent crushers. Crushers are used for fast primary crushing of material in large chunks such as large pellets.
CMS shredders are used to break up large sheets or cut-offs. The rugged and dependable CMS breaker reduces agglomerations or compacted materials into small particle sizes for processing.
Pin Mills
The CMS Pin Mill consists of a pin disc which utilizes internal circulation of material for producing fine grinds at high capacities.

Principle of Operation
The material to be ground is pneumatically or mechanically conveyed from the hopper to a Pin Rotor where break up of material occurs. Acceptable ground particles are drawn downward through the exhaust and go to the Collector. Lowered power consumption is vital and is realized by the efficiency of material transportation, resulting in lower operating costs. Easy Cleaning and Maintenance
The cover of the pin mill is hinged. All components in contact with the grinding material are then freely accessible and easy to clean. The complete pin mill assembly can be vertically extracted for maintenance and repair work. Replacement Parts
CMS,manufactures their replacement parts to the highest precision standards to assure continued high efficiency performance of all their equipment. Dust Free OperationTotally dust free operation. That means virtually no product loss and nuisance dust savings. System CapabilitiesCMS,has the capabilities of offering a size reduction system complete with cyclones, dust collectors, fans and discharge valves
| High Efficiency Cyclones
Classifier Milling Systems manufactures high efficiency cyclones in a wide variety of constructions to meet severe service conditions. Special heavy-wall constructions are also offered to meet high pressure applications, or a combination of high pressures and temperatures.
For applications involving severe abrasion and/or extremely high temperatures, such as occur in catalyst recovery systems, or roasting and similar pyroprocessing operations, Classifier Milling Systems provides refractory-lined cyclones.

The type of refractory lining, its method of application and its thickness depend upon the environmental conditions and process requirements of the specific application. Where highly abrasive dusts are being handled at moderate temperatures, several abrasion resistant castable linings are offered. These are troweled into a hex-mesh metal anchor. An abrasive-resistant brick lining, such as fire brick or silicon carbide can also be provided for such applications.
For extremely high temperatures - up to 2500F - high strength poured castable linings are offered. These linings have excellent insulation properties and resist abrasion and spauling.
Multi-layer refractory constructions have been developed to meet extremes of both heat and abrasion. These include a castable refractory overlaid on insulation block, abrasion-resistant brick or tile on insulation brick or castable and other dual and even triple layer combinations of varying thickness'.
In some applications an exterior insulation is also provided to minimize process heat loss and to assure safety of personnel.
Coil Analogy Upon entering a cyclone the largest and/or heaviest particles which reach the barrel wall form a relatively dense and narrow stream which travels down through barrel and cone in a continuous spiral path. The entering gasses also initially describe a spiral path within the barrel, but eventually follow aerodynamic pressure gradients and travel inward to be exhausted through the upper gas outlet tube, while the stream of collected solids flows out through the hole in the bottom of the cone. This spiraling pattern may be considered analogous to the flow of gas and solids through a coiled pipe provided with a narrow slit along its inner length to permit gradual dissipation of the gas.
Centrifugal force effect: Such a spiraling particle/gas stream is subject to substantial centrifugal force. For example, a conventional 3 foot diameter cyclone at an inlet velocity of 70 ft/sec. Imposes a peripheral force of 100g's on entering particles; at 100 ft/sec. inlet velocity at 1 foot dia. Unit exerts 620g's.
Because of the many variables that affect cyclone performance, it is important to provide your ABM Equipment representative with complete data for consideration in determining the proper size cyclone. In some cases where the material being collected has some unusual characteristics, it is recommended that samples of the dust be submitted to the factory for test and analysis. From the data provided, and from the detailed specifications on required capacity, efficiency and pressure drop, we will recommend one or more cyclone designs.
Cyclones Available in stainless steel and carbon steel construction. The body, cone and dust trap is one piece all welded construction with internal welds ground smooth. An extended acceleration inlet tube for optional efficiency with inlet prepared for quick-release coupling for ease of cleaning. An outlet tube and exhaust is removable to provide access to inside from top. This eliminates the need for access doors, and flanged connections in body which produce horizontal ledges. These can decrease efficiency and accumulate powder and are difficult to clean. The exhaust connect is also prepared for a quick-release coupling.
Cyclone Classifiers The CMS Cyclone Classifier is designed to remove a specific size range of particles. This cyclone is designed to handle a wide range of dry materials in the following industries; chemical, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, plastic, cement, lime and rock. This unit has been successful in running such materials as pigments, fillers, ceramics, dyes, resins, chemicals, insecticides, flours, clay, limestone, cement and many others.
The classifier is adjustable over a wide range of particle sizing through the use of a variable speed separator wheel. This unique feature permits the operator to shift from one classification to another without shutting the unit down. Materials of pre-selected finess are carried through a lower outlet duct leaving the excess dust material to be discharged through an upper outlet duct to a CMS Dust Collection Unit.
